The piece

A predator caught mid-stride, built from salvage

Every scale of the mane is an individual piece of steel, cut and MIG-welded by hand; the body is shaped from an assortment of reclaimed stainless and mild steel and finished on a solid steel base plate. Up close it reads as thousands of deliberate welds — a raw, industrial texture that catches the light from any angle.

The artist & the name

Made by Judah, for ScrapFest

Judah is an eighteen-year-old metal artist. He built this lion from a pile of scrap for ScrapFest — the scrap-metal art competition in Lansing, Michigan — teaching himself to translate salvaged steel into something alive and in motion.

The subject is no accident. A lion made by someone named Judah is the Lion of Judah — an ancient emblem of strength and courage. It's a first major work by a young maker, offered to its first collector: a rare chance to own an emerging artist's breakout piece.

Gallery
